I originally got this copy of The Conjoined by Jen Sookfong Lee in the fall, so I could review it for the Ottawa Review of Books. Go read my full thoughts over there!
Briefly, it’s a novel about a social worker who returns home after her mother’s death to clean out all her mother’s things… and discovers the bodies of two dead teenagers in the basement deep freezer.
It’s a wild and unexpected ride that resists the “natural” conclusion and refuses to go in the directions you expect. In short: it’s pretty great.
My copy just came home to roost after I loaned it to my favourite CanLit pal, who enjoyed it just as much as I did:
The Conjoined: 12/10 highly recommend (and it didn’t give me nightmares, at least in the way I thought it might).
