Kindred by Octavia E. Butler

Kindred is the next book on tap for my time travel literature class, and I’d been looking forward to it, but I’ve become more suspicious after Time-Traveler’s Wife proved to be such a dud.

The premise: our protagonist is transported back to the pre-civil war era of America, where she has to navigate and facilitate the relationship between one of her forebears (a slave) and another of her forebears (a slave-owner). It sounds interesting, but also like it has the potential to get real heavy real fast. I guess we’ll find out!
